Top East Coast Cities for a Weekend Trip

Hey hey! It’s almost Labor Day Weekend, which is insane! I feel like summer flew by and despite the fact that I don’t love the high temperatures we get here in Virginia, I am a little sad to see it go. On the flip side, I am very excited about the fact that Fall is upon us! Well, kind of. I mean, it won’t really be cooler temperatures around here until October. If we’re lucky. But, I am looking forward to cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, and booties, like every other basic white girl out there. Ha! Except I don’t do Starbucks PSL. No coffee for me.

Anyways, today I’m pulling together a list of my top east coast cities for a weekend trip! Do you have Labor Day off and want to plan a quick vacation? Check out my posts below for everything you need to know about heading to one of these destinations. Hopefully you are within driving distance of one of these east coast cities and can quickly zip down there this holiday weekend! If you already have plans, tell me what you’re doing in the comments below!

Top cities you need to visit on the East Coast! City guides for long weekend getaways!

Newport, Rhode Island

Visit Newport, Rhode Island for a quick weekend trip!

I had my bachelorette party in this adorable city! Newport sits right on the water and is the best mix of downtown fun and classy outskirts, with wineries and the mansion Cliff Walk. Check out everything we did here!

Richmond, Virginia

Visit Richmond, Virginia for a quick weekend trip! Obviously get a few donuts :)

Jarrett and I have done a couple day trips to Richmond, since it is only a few hours away from where we are in Norfolk, Virginia. This place is a craft beer lover’s dream! Check out our first trip and then what we did the second time around.

Charlottesville, Virginia

Visit Charlottesville, Virginia and be sure to head to Pippin Hill Winery!

We went to Charlottesville for my sister’s bachelorette weekend! I have also been with Jarrett for a birthday celebration and had such a great time on both trips. Charlottesville is a college town, with plenty of outdoor activities to do just outside of the city. Its the perfect mix of hiking, breweries, and the excitement that college kids bring to a destination.

Raleigh, North Carolina

You have to go to Rise Donuts if you visit Raleigh, North Carolina!

Although I don’t find that Raleigh itself has a ton of activities, it is home to some of the best food I have had, and worth checking out on a quick weekend trip! Here’s what we did on our quick trip to Raleigh.

Asheville, North Carolina

Hole Donuts in Asheville, North Carolina is a must-do and eat on your weekend trip!

While Asheville is not exactly on the coast, it has been one of my all-time favorite cities that we have visited! Amazing food, amazing hiking, breweries galore… What more could you want?

Here’s our travel video from our anniversary trip and here is a written down guide of what to do in Asheville.

Charleston, South Carolina

I literally dream about this burrata salad from Charleston! You need to make a weekend trip here!

We visited Charleston for my sister’s wedding this past December and I thought it was such a charming, southern city! I do wish we had more time to explore, but from the little we did see, I definitely want to make a return trip.

Other top east coast cities for a weekend trip:

Burlington, Vermont

Jarrett and I spent one of his birthday’s in Burlington and had a blast! I do think there is a theme to cities we enjoy though, after looking at this list. Think breweries, hiking, great food, probably a college town. Ha!

Portland, Maine

Another must-visit city if you are visiting New England! Be sure to stop by The Holy Donut, get a lobster roll, and visit Bissell Brothers. We also got engaged just outside of Portland. 🙂

Boston, Massachusetts

I went to college in Boston, so this was my city for 6 years! I should probably write up a big, long post about what to do in Boston for a weekend trip. Honestly, it’s just the best city.

Washington, D.C.

Many of you may have been to Washington, D.C. on a school field trip! But, assuming you are not in high school currently, it’s probably been a while. There are so many museums, restaurants, and fun activities that you could easily fill a weekend!

Alright friends, that wraps up my top east coast cities for a weekend trip! Please let me know if you have been to another city you highly recommend, or what you have done in the cities I have already mentioned!
