Wedding Regrets and How to Avoid Them When Planning Your Own

Good morning, friends! Todays post is all about any regrets I have from our wedding. Plus, I will be answering a few common FAQs. This may be my last wedding post for a while, unless you think of something you really want an in-depth post on. If that’s the case, just let me know in the comments below.

If you missed other wedding posts, be sure to catch up here! There is still going to be another honeymoon post in the future, but I think I exhausted the actual wedding planning topic. That is until I start talking about planning my sister’s bachelorette and bridal shower. 🙂

Wedding Regrets

Now, before I dive into the minor regrets I do have, let me just preface by saying I loved our wedding! Despite a few mishaps, *cough* Mother Nature, it was still the most amazing day and I got to marry Jarrett. With that being said, there were a couple things that I would have changed now that I have had a chance to reflect on the day.

First Look

The big regret for me was not doing a first look. This was largely due to the way our day was scheduled, but I also thought I wanted the surprise of walking down the aisle and having that be the first time Jarrett saw me. Our ceremony was at 1:30pm due to our officiant having a previously scheduled obligation. Because of this, we would have either had to add hours to our photography package, or forgo a first look. We chose to skip the first look, since we had plenty of time to take pictures (2 hours), between the ceremony and cocktail hour.

Looking back, I really wish we had been able to have that first look experience. Even if we didn’t actually see each other, I think that getting a chance to talk and hold hands would have lessened the nerves a bit. I felt fine during the ceremony, but Jarrett definitely seemed nervous. He won’t admit it, but I could tell he wasn’t as emotional as he would have been, had he not been focused on being stared at by our guests. I think a first look would have calmed him and maybe have allowed him to loosen up a bit.

It also would have broken up the actual photography sessions! Two hours in a row was a lot for Jarrett and our bridal party to handle. If we had gotten some of the pictures completed prior to the ceremony, I do think that certain people’s patience would not have been so tested.

Alone Time

My other real regret goes along with skipping that first look, and that is that Jarrett and I did not have a single second to ourselves the entire wedding day! That may seem insane, but we went right from the ceremony, to pictures, to cocktail hour and the full reception. I really really wish we had snuck a few private moments, just to fully embrace the gravity of what we both just agreed to do!

If you can, I highly suggest you blocking a few minutes during your timeline or letting your wedding planner know that you want to steal some time alone with your husband/wife.

I don’t really have any other regrets when it came to our wedding. It was the most magical day and we had an amazing vendor team to help us pull it off. My family also played a huge role in the day, which made it even more perfect!

Where did you purchase your wedding dress and what brand was it?

Marry & Tux, a bridal salon in Nashua, NH. It was the Milly dress by Morilee and I’m still obsessed with it. 🙂

Where did you get the bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen suits?

Our bridesmaids chose their own dresses from a color palette I chose. They were purchased at Madeline’s Daughter, which is a salon in Portsmouth, NH.

All of the suits were rented from Menguin/Generation Tux. We purchased their ties from Express and got them fun socks online at Bold Socks.

How many guests did you have?

We invited approximately 165 and had 120 in attendance.

What did we do for food/bar?

Cocktail hour was passed hor d’oeuvres plus a stationary cheese display and a veggie display.

Dinner was buffet: choice of steak tips, chicken piccata, and vegetarian risotto.

Dessert: 3 kinds of cake from Whole Foods and tons of donuts.

Late night snack: S’mores.

Did you have wedding favors?

Short answer is no. We planned on having a bonfire with s’mores after our reception, but mother nature had other plans. Around 11:30pm, we did end up having very late night s’mores, but most guests had already retired for the evening. I have never found that people missed favors, and most of the time, they are left behind.

Where did you register?

Bed, Bath, & Beyond; Crate and Barrel; and Blueprint Registry. Read about registering for your wedding here!

Where did you honeymoon?

Belize! We stayed on Caye Caulker for 4.5 days and in a jungle lodge near San Ignacio for 4.5 days. Check out all of my posts on our honeymoon here.
