Lifestyle Favorites: January 2018

Back with the first favorites post of 2018! Some of these items were Christmas gifts that I have been using on repeat, some are guilty pleasures, and one is a sneaky way to feel like you’re eating a dessert! Caught your attention on any of those?

In some ways January feels like it dragged on forever, and in others, it flew by. How it is already one full week into February I will never know. Maybe it’s because work has been slow but I’ve been crazy busy with wedding planning? There’s just this weird combination of boredom and chaos that is currently driving my life right now.

Anyways, I hope you try out one of the many things I loved in January! Come back and let me know in the comments below what you think. And, as always, give me your recommendations! I am always looking for food to try, books to read, etc.

Food

Energy Bites

This month has been all about creating energy bite recipes! This was probably due to the re-introduction of meal-prepping into my Sunday routine, but I have been loving having these easy, mostly healthy snacks on hand for when hunger strikes!

In case you missed it, check out my Dark Chocolate Banana bites here or my Peanut Butter and Jelly bites here. I have included the macronutrient and calorie breakdown on both recipes in case eating healthier is part of your 2018 lifestyle.

Entertainment

Reality Television

Alright, serious guilty-pleasure television coming at you right now. January brought new seasons of both The Bachelor and Married at First Sight. Now, I understand that these shows have a certain reputation, but when it comes to reality television, I just want pure entertainment.

I gave up on The Bachelor for a few seasons and somehow got dragged back in this time around. I’m not terribly invested, but I’m pulling for Becca K 😊

If you have not witnessed Married at First Sight, what have you been doing with your life?! I kid, I kid. But seriously. This show is addicting in the way that you think you might be watching a train wreck, but it’s also moderately inspirational? This season takes place in Boston, which holds a special place in my heart, so I just had to tune in.

Self-Help Book

Okay, this one makes up for the reality shows, right? I received “You Are a Badass” for Christmas and just finished reading it. I have not read many (or any) self-help books before, but loved this! The author, Jen Sincero, writes so comically, and the messages really stuck with me. If you want to change your life, you need to get off your butt, stop whining about it, and make some serious changes. I highly suggest you read this book if you feel like you are in a rut, or if you just want to make life a little better. Because, why not? This would also make an incredible college graduation or first job gift.

Household

Essential Oil Diffuser

I also received this Zen Breeze essential oil diffuser for Christmas. So far, I have really enjoyed the scents and honestly, have not lit a candle since December. I love candles, so that is saying a lot.

I have the Radha Beauty Top 8 essential oils, and have mostly been diffusing tea tree, orange, and lemongrass. I am not super familiar with what those oils are said to do for your mood, I just gravitate towards those scents. If anyone knows more about the uses of essential oils, hit yo girl up!

Beauty

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Bright

Finally, this “mask” has been on my radar for a while and luckily, my mom got it for me over the holidays! My skin has also been a trouble spot, with acne leaving behind dark spots and changes in pigmentation. While the acne itself had been more controlled, I had not found a product that lightened the blemish remnants until now. I have only been using it for about 5 weeks, but have already started to notice changes in my skin. The cream is thick, but goes on smooth and does not feel heavy. I can’t wait to see what happens going forward!

This cream is on the more expensive side, but I have barely put a dent in the jar and have been using it daily since Christmas. There are a number of other skincare products in the same line that I would love to try!

Have you tried any of these before? Any recommendations for similar items?

Hope you guys enjoyed January’s round-up!
