Eating Our Way Around Virginia Beach
Happy Sunday, friends! Today, I decided to throw together a little re-cap of our weekend, with lots of pictures of our food adventures. As always, if you have any recommendations on restaurants to try or places to go, let me know in the comments below!
*Did not mean for that to rhyme, but look out Dr. Seuss!

I only work until 1:30pm on Fridays, so my weekend usually gets off to an early start! After a quick lunch at home, I went to the gym to complete an upper body workout. I plan on doing a post on my current workout split, so stay tuned if fitness is an interest of yours!
Once Jarrett was back from work, we had a quick dinner at home before meeting up with friends. It was a pretty low-key night, which is usually the case on Fridays after waking up early all week! If you have never played Cards Against Humanity, I highly recommend the game. Just be sure to you are not easily offended or embarrassed. The game can get interesting quickly!

All week I had been wanting to go for a walk and to visit a farmer’s market Saturday morning. And let me tell you, those plans did not work out for us. We woke up early and were out the door around 8:30 to head to the Chesapeake Arboretum, with the expectation that we would find a nice walking trail to curb our desire to go hiking. Instead, we found was a short walk through the woods, next to a stream that housed all of Virginia’s mosquitos! It looks a lot prettier than it felt!
After being tortured for about 1 mile, we decided to move on to the market. Except, when we arrived at the park, there was a dog show in place of the farm-fresh veggies I was seeking out! Now, ordinarily I would’ve been thrilled to have stumbled upon a dog show. However, this time, it seriously cranked up the grumpiness! Luckily, in my hanger, I remembered hearing about a donut shop nearby.
Amazing Glazed saved the morning! It is set up like Duck Donuts, where each donut is glazed/topped per your chosen selection. You can read about the wonderful treats at Duck Donuts here. We again got a half dozen, although these donuts were smaller, so I felt a tad better about myself. The donuts tasted beyond fresh and full of flavor! Apple pie was the clear winner, topped with apple pie filling and coated in cinnamon sugar. How I wish I had one as I type this! My mouth may be watering…
Later that evening, we went to Craft Burger Bar in Virginia Beach. The friends we met up with Friday night had gone to dinner there and highly recommended the just-opened restaurant! We ordered the chili cheese fries as an appetizer and chose not to order sides with our main meals (as they are sold separately.) In no time, we polished off the deliciously cheesy goodness, and anxiously awaited our burgers.
Caprese, for me, and Texas BBQ, for Jarrett. Once they arrived, I think they were devoured within minutes. I had never had balsamic on a burger before, and it was a game-changer. I may have to try to re-create the caprese burger at some point.

The highlight of today was meeting up with another couple for brunch at Baker’s Crust. God bless whoever decided brunch was a thing. Eggs benedict is my usual brunch dish of choice, and when I saw that this restaurant offered a benny with fried chicken on a sweet potato biscuit… boom, decision made. I swear the restaurants down here are going to actually make me a southern girl! Biscuits just speak to my soul.
This afternoon has been cleaning the apartment and blogging for me; naptime for Jarrett. I should probably wake him up soon so he can get his butt back to studying! Pulling together some chili is on the agenda next!
I hope you all had a great weekend, whether that meant more relaxing at home or adventure. Thanks for popping in to say hello!
