How I Reached 1 Million Monthly Views on Pinterest

Hello, hello! Today is all about how I doubled my monthly views on Pinterest in just 12 days! DOUBLED! I hit 1 million monthly views on Pinterest on February 16th, and it’s only up from here.

I was so excited to see that number under my name! New goal: 5 million :)
I was so excited to see that number under my name! New goal: 5 million 🙂

I’m going to give you the details of how I accomplished this in just a couple months, because honestly, anyone can do this. It is beginning to translate into more referrals to my blog, which was my main motivation for trying this experiment. My dream would be to make enough money from this blog to not have to work outside the house. Dream big, they say, right?!

So, let me give you the lowdown on the way I made 1 million monthly views on Pinterest possible. I’m not going to lie and tell you it was easy, because this does require effort and patience. Plus, a monetary investment if you want to go the route I did. Keep reading through my tips and let me know if you want to try this out yourself!

Use Tailwind!

This is the main tip and probably how I reached 1 million monthly views on Pinterest so quickly! Tailwind is a website that allows you to schedule Pinterest pins in advance. Additionally, Tailwind pins those images at the optimal time, based on when your viewers are most active on Pinterest. Make sense?

I started using Tailwind towards the end of November. My personal results have been amazing, however they may not be typical. Check out this post on typical results for Tailwind Pinterest users. If you want to try it out, your first 100 scheduled pins are free! Click here to sign up!

Now, once you are all signed up with Tailwind, there are a number of aspects that make growing your Pinterest possible!

  • Use Tailwind Tribes
    • Think of these as group boards on Pinterest! You can join a tribe specific to your niche, submit Pinterest-worthy images, and have them be scheduled by other Tailwind users to their Pinterest boards
    • The basic membership comes allows you to connect with 5 unique Tribes. Should you want to participate in more, there is the option to purchase PowerUps!
Use Tailwind Tribes to get your content out to other users. This allows them to schedule your Pinterest images to their own boards, expanding your reach!

  • Make use of scheduling pins in advance with your publisher.
    • This is probably the main reason I have grown so steadily over the last couple months! I schedule approx 50-60 pins per day, and then let Tailwind post them to my Pinterest at the optimal times.
    • When I was away for a week for my sister’s wedding, I put in a lot of time in advance to schedule pins out for the entire trip! You read that correctly. I had 1 week’s worth of Pinterest content scheduled before I left, so I didn’t even have to think about fitting that into my vacation time.
This is a sneak peek at my weekly pinning schedule on Tailwind. You can add optimal times to increase the number of pins that are posted daily.

  • Use Smart Loops in your publisher.
    • Smart Loops are a newer feature of Tailwind. They allow you to group like pins, such as pins related to wedding planning or travel, and create a repeating loop that posts without your effort.

Tailwind can be a bit confusing to explain, but I promise you it’s not complicated once you review the website and start playing around with it!

Be Consistent

You probably know this already, but consistency is key! I’m sure you’ve noticed that you have lost Instagram followers or your social media growth plateaued when you weren’t active for a week or two. It’s the same with Pinterest, because it is also a social media platform!

Scheduling pins with Tailwind allows me to maintain consistency in pinning times and amount, without getting on Pinterest each and every day, or multiple times per day.

If you don’t want to try out Tailwind, then I highly suggest you block 10 minutes, twice a day, to actively pin on Pinterest. Try to choose times that you think other members are also actively searching and using the website.

Join Group Boards on Pinterest

Joining group boards is the best way to get your content out to new followers and more Pinterest users! I currently only have 230 followers, but somehow reach over 1 million monthly views on Pinterest.

I have to think that is because of the many group boards I participate in! Search for group boards that fit the content you want to promote. I belong to general lifestyle blogger group boards, as well as travel and recipe boards.

Make sure you follow the admin rules and re-pin when you pin! Promoting other peoples content makes them more likely to share yours and spread the wealth.

Not sure where to start with group boards? Check out mine here and email me to join!

Know Your Audience

Knowing your audience will definitely help with your overall growth on Pinterest, because you’re giving the people what they want! Ha! If you are posting a bunch of holiday children’s crafts, but the rest of your content is aimed at girls in their mid-twenties, who want to travel the world and rock a pencil skirt at work, it’s just not going to translate.

Change your Pinterest to a business account and gains access to all of your analytics. These will show you which boards perform the best, which pins are most popular, and what your audience is primarily searching for. Use this information to your advantage when planning content for your blog or social media!

Here is a peak at my Pinterest analytics, which are available because I have a free business account.

You can see my growth on Pinterest over the past month! I now average 1.2 million monthly viewers, which grew from approximately 400,000 in mid-January. Look at those percentage increases!

So, an average of the last 30 days is about 500,000 views. A bit confusing if you don’t look at the graph. But, look at those percentage increases!

Have Quality Pinterest Images

My final tip is a big one. Make sure you are producing and pinning high-quality images. You are not going to reach 1 million monthly views on Pinterest if your account is not visually appealing.

Personally, I use Canva to create my images. Canva is a free website that allows you to create a number of different visual graphics. They have a layout specific for the preferred Pinterest image size and a number of free resources to make your pins look great!

You can either use your own images, or find free stock photos. I use Pexels if I am looking for an image I do not personally have available.

Bright colors and simple graphics seem to do best, but find your own aesthetic and you’ll do well!
