Hello friends! I hope you are all having a great day! As I’m writing this, we have officially been married for one month. Wahoo!! Now, I understand that that is not a very long time in the grand scheme of things. I honestly didn’t even realize it had been a month until I saw the date for my Instagram post today. But, now that a month has gone by, I figured its time to really dive into wedding posts!
I’m starting off the series with a recap of our 4-day wedding weekend in New Hampshire! Future posts will likely include: splurge vs. save, wedding regrets/would we have done anything differently, wedding vendors, Etsy purchases, and honeymoon recaps! Our New Hampshire wedding weekend included a Thursday night rehearsal dinner, Friday night cookout, our wedding on Saturday, and a Sunday morning brunch. Lots of time to celebrate with family and friends! Anyways, enough chit chat. Time to dive right into our wedding weekend extravanagza!
Thursday Night: Rehearsal and Dinner
Wedding rehearsals are interesting. If you have ever been to one, you know that people don’t really know what they are doing, and that honestly, they probably won’t really know what to do come the actual wedding either. It’s always nice to do a quick run-through, but people really just want to get to the food. Ha!
Our rehearsal was a breeze, and while dinner was being prepared, we took it upon ourselves to do a little impromptu photo shoot. I’ll let you observe the shenanigans here.
Our rehearsal dinner was hosted by Jarrett’s mother, Debby, and sister, Marissa, and included our immediate families and the bridal party/their guests. It was an intimate, cozy dinner at our wedding venue, the Preserve at Chocorua.
**Quick sidetone: we chose our venue because we (+approx 75 family members) could stay on property from Thursday through Sunday. I’ll get into more details when I do a post covering our vendors.
The Common Man catered both our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception. The food was amazing! For our rehearsal dinner, we had carved flank steak, a pasta station including their famous macaroni and cheese, and a couple salads! Dessert included mixed pastries and cupcakes.
Debby and Marissa did such an amazing job decorating the Sap House! They had pictures of Jarrett and I lining the table, with beautiful flowers and chocolate favors. It was the perfect way to kick off an amazing weekend!
Friday: Craft Beer Party and Cookout
Friday morning started off with manicures and pedicures for myself and the bridesmaids, followed by partying it up in the gorgeous weather back at the property!
My dad hosted a “beer around the world party,” which kicked off an evening of eating and drinking. Now, our wedding had a very minor “craft beer” theme/undertone, so my dad rolled with it and had guests bring a 6-pack of beer to share! There were tasting cups on display, surrounded by a number of different beers to sample. Let me tell you, people were sampling and by the time food came out, everyone was feeling pretty darn good!
Jarrett’s dad, George, and his dad’s girlfriend, Diane, hosted the cookout, which included a number of guests staying both on the property and at nearby lodging. They took care of everything and had the best food, prepared by Diane’s son-in-law. We’re talking normal cookout food, like burgers and hot dogs, but with a gourmet spin to include a number of potato or pasta salads, grilled marinated veggies, and the best guacamole!
At some point, a gigantic game of kick ball began, drawing most of my cousins to the action. I think a fire may have also been started, potentially with s’mores? The details are a little blurry, but I know it was a great evening!
Saturday: Wedding Day!
I woke up bright and early on Saturday, June 23rd, unable to sleep due to excitement and a bit of nerves. Hair and makeup arrived around 9am and the day got started! My bridesmaids and mom got ready with me in this gorgeous suite on the venue’s property, while a few of the guys got haircuts and eventually brunch! From what I was told after, the guys were almost late to the wedding because it took so long to be seated. Can you imagine?! It’s usually the bride that is late!
We hung out most of the morning, getting ready, drinking mimosas, and perfecting our Boomerangs 🙂 Photography arrived around 12:30 to take a few pre-wedding pictures and then we were off!
The ceremony started right on time, at 1:30pm, in front of the gorgeous farm house. Now, let me back up a bit. All week I had been watching the weather and up until Thursday, it looked perfect. Come Thursday, rain moved into the forecast, and rain is what we got.
Luckily, the rain held off until most of the way through our wedding ceremony, so we were able to get married outside! Plus, once we were pronounced “husband and wife,” we didn’t care that it was coming down on us!
Following the ceremony, we took as many pictures as possible between downpours and mist. Cocktail hour began in the tent at 4pm! To be honest, this hour was a blur of more pictures, waiters bringing me appetizers (shout out to them!), and having 3 people attempt to bustle my gown for about 20 minutes.
The reception began at 5pm and we kicked off an amazing night with hilarious bridal party introductions and our first dance. During which, by the way, I cannot remember hearing a single word of the song! Following speeches and dinner, family and friends piled onto the dance floor and didn’t leave until 10pm.
We had a very casual after-party in the main farmhouse, with more food and drinks, and a fire pit with s’mores! I do remember s’mores on this night 🙂 We called it a relatively early night, maybe around 1am, and hit the hay to rest up for brunch the next morning.
The morning after the wedding, we hosted a light brunch back in the farmhouse on the property, for any guests that stayed on property or nearby. It was another great chance to talk to guests and thank them for taking time to celebrate our marriage with us! We feasted on leftover wedding donuts, mini sandwiches, fruit salads, bagels, etc. I think the overall theme for the weekend was having way too much food.
We chatted with guests from 10a-12p and then got everything organized before hitting the road. Jarrett and I stayed at the Hilton attached to Boston Logan Airport Sunday night. We jetted off to Belize for our honeymoon bright and early Monday morning!
